Story

My father Alan, with his wife Pat and their infant son Michael, left England in 1951, after six years WWII service, for further adventure in Australia.

My father had obtained work as a surveyor/engineer with the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Authority and he and my mother were sent initially to Old Geehi in the Snowy Mountains. They were truly Australian pioneers living without running water or initially electricity. As a family we lived all over the Snowy Mountains as my father’s work took us from project to project until completion of the Scheme.

We travelled to Australia by the P&O ship “the Chitral”.

As an infant I have no memories of my arrival in Australia but many wonderful memories of my youth spent like Tom Sawyer in the Snowy Mountains bush!
