Story

Jane worked in the Mills in Bradford, probably Lister’s Mill as she lived opposite it. A new Woollen Mill had been built in Victoria and they needed workers to run it and had advertised in England for them.

Jane had been widowed young and had one daughter, Florence, who was married.

Florence also came to Australia in 1911. Her husband had died of TB, 2 children had already died, another was dying of the cold, my mother. Jane told her to bring Ida to Australia and she would be allright. On arriving in Australia, Jane took one look at Ida and thought she was dead.

Ida married, had 4 children and lived to the age of 81 yrs.

Florence’s husband’s cousin William came out in the RN and they met up and he transferred to the RAN and married her in Sydney in 1918.

I know nothing of the journey or arrival.
