Story
PART 2
Crossing the Great Australian Bight, we encountered 4 days of frightening stormy seas and for some, exposure to harrowing sea sickness before arriving at Port Melbourne.
My first 9 months were spent in Adelaide and then I moved to Melbourne, chasing the dollar and mastering English whilst doing dirty and demeaning type of work that I accepted as a kind of unavoidable first jobs, say my ‘National Service’ in Australia. Arriving in Sydney in 1962, I soon started pursuing a serious career path in bookkeeping, accounting and much later, as an accounts executive at larger companies, in tandem with my long term part time employment as a nationally accredited translator with the Commonwealth Dept. of Immigration and with the NSW State Govt., to supplement family income and for retention of my linguistic skills.
Readily cherishing the common values with the mainstream society, I integrated fast and well into my new country, never forgetting my Hungarian roots in the process. I married a 4th generation Australian of Anglo-Saxon and Irish origin, and we had 4 gifted children named Matthew (1964), Eugene (1967) twins Melinda and Charlene (1969). Their progeny our 4 grand children are named Haylie (1991), Josef (1991), Evan (1994) and Ariane (1994). As an average family, we enjoyed the wholesome, peaceful and relatively prosperous Australian lifestyle in one of the leafy suburbs of Sydney. Australia has the love and total loyalty of this proud Hungarian-Aussie who, so far has lived for 47 years in this fair and friendly country and now enjoys a happy and secure retirement, in beautiful Hobart with a life rich in cultural pursuits and overseas travels.
