Story

Louis Theodore (known as Ludwig) Caspar was born in Schaffhausen Switzerland, the second born child and eldest son of Philipp and Johanna Caspar.

Little is know of the reason why he would chose to immigrate to Australia, as he should have inherited his family\’s estate of two successful Inns (hotels) in Schaffhausen, upon his father\’s death. The hotels, the Zum Ziegler and Zum Alder were sold out of the family in later years. They still existed in 2006, when his descendants visited Schauffhausen.

Louis was born on 25th April 1815, and travelled to Australia with his wife, Clara Ehalt and youngest son in 1858, leaving his two older sons in Switzerland to further their education. They travelled to Australia in 1866. He settled in Trentham in Victoria and had seven more sons born in Australia.

His descendants now number into the many hundreds.
