Story

In April 13th 1888 he travelled to Australia with his brother’s three children (his brother had been widowed and was now remarried in Australia)

In his diary Francis speaks of all being in good spirits as we set off for Australia, We enjoyed singing and dancing although space was limited. I played my viola with two other violinists and had some good music. Divine service was held on Sundays with morning prayer and hymn singing, sankeys hymns were most popular. Sunday 22nd April we found ourselves in the beautiful Bay of Naples, the whole appearance was indescribably grand. All went well until the ship collided with an iron-screw steamer the Lucinda on 1st May.

The remainder of the journey we transferred to the P & O steamer Ballarat, a more superior ship than the Garonne with every possible comfort.

Francis settled in Geelong and married Minnie Carter. They had 4 sons and 1 daughter. He played the organ in several churches, and was an estate agent, later becoming Shrimpton & Son.
