Story

Charles Newton

Born in Ditton, Cambridge, England in 1823.

Came to Australia with his wife Johanna Newton (Holmes) and 3 boys – Henry aged 7, Charles 4 and William 1.

They arrived in Sydney on the “Rose-of-Sharon” on 14 April 1855.

The land they settled on was near Orange in Central Western NSW, where they brought up a large family, many later settling in the area. The Newton name being well known in and around Canowindra where my grandfather Charles and grandmother Annie (Webb) lived and brought up their family of 5 boys and 3 girls.
